Update about appointments

We are aware of the difficulties some patients have been having in getting appointments, both in terms of getting through on the phone and in being able to arrange an appointment.

Our telephone system is about to have an upgrade which will again increase the  number of lines coming in to the practice.

We are also continuing to have an emergency on-call doctor and as always, if you have an urgent medical problem, you will be offered an appointment with the on-call doctor.

In order to make it easier for you to make an appointment we would ask you to make a note of the following:

    • Same day appointments are bookable from 8.00 a.m. in the morning by telephone and at reception.

    • For all other enquiries, including advance appointments, home visits, test results or administrative enquiries, please avoid contacting us between 8.30-9.30 in order to free up the phone lines/front desk for those needing a same day appointment.

    • We do not operate personalised lists within the practice. Although we recognise the benefits of seeing the same doctor, it may be worth seeing a different doctor if you are having difficulty getting an appointment.

    • If you need a home visit, please notify the surgery before 10.30 am whenever possible.

We do understand how frustrating it can be when you are not able to get an appointment. We hope that by continuing to monitor our demand and capacity and by patients adhering to these guidelines that it will be easier to contact the surgery by phone as well as easier to make an appointment.

We would ask you however, that if do have difficulty getting an appointment, that you do not take it out on our staff. We do have a policy of zero tolerance with regards to aggressive or abusive behaviour.

We would like to reassure you that we will continue to endeavour to offer our best service to our patients.

MISSED APPOINTMENTS

Patients are unfortunately still failing to attend appointments. On average at least 30 patients miss an appointment each week. This equates to one whole GP working day.  If you are unable to attend an appointment, can you please contact the surgery to cancel to enable another patient to take the appointment.  Please remember to let us have your mobile number.  We are able to send a text reminder for all those patients with mobile phones.
